SAF's new Air Defense Mobile System
Yesterday was the second rehearsal for Singapore's National Day parade on Aug 9. One of our readers, Mr. Ching, tipped me off on the location of the assembly point for the armor vehicles. Armed with my little Nikon compact camera, I head down to the carpark at National Stadium and snapped some photos.
There are two versions of the vehicle, one with a search radar on top of the weapon station and one without. This system seems to be based on Rafael's
Air Defense Mobile System. The Surveillance and Command Unit's radar being mounted on top of the Missile Launching Unit's weapon station instead. This reduces the number of M113s needed to deploy.
There are two operator stations with LCD panels inside the Surveillance and Command Unit.
There is a FN MAG 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) mounted on the left side of the weapon station and a box containing possible optics for the sighting system on the right side. IFF antenna on top.
Missiles are Igla (SA-16) which Singapore license produce. Two on each side. Closeup of the GPMG without the butt.
There is an extra antenna on the right side of the weapon station for the Missile Launching Unit.
Whilst taking these photos, a Master SGT was giving me an unfriendly stare and I did what Sailor Malan would say. "Go in quickly - Punch hard - Get out!"
