Moldovan MiG scandal reaches US
A former senior U.S. diplomat that negotiated the purchase of Moldovan MiG-29s in 1997 for the United States said that the rule of law there has collapsed.
E. Wayne Merry, current Senior Associate at the American Foreign Policy Council, said the sentencing of former Defense Minister Valeriu Pasat to 10 years hard labour on grounds of selling the MiGs to the U.S. government at excessively low prices is an apparent attempt to "smear the United States."
