Boeing pays $15 million fine
Boeing has agreed to pay a $15 million fine to settle a dispute with the State Department over the selling of a small gyrochip with military applications in its commercial aircraft.
State Department argues that the QRS-11 gyrochip comes under the Arms Export Control Act and requires approval for export. It charge that Boeing ship the gyrochip on 94 commercial jets between 2000 and 2003, including 19 to China.
The QRS-11 has since been reclassified as commercial items when integrated into commercial-jet flight boxes while remaining on the list of military items.
