By some estimates, new carriers would be less expensive to build
U.S. Navy officials and executives of Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard told reporters that the new CVN-21 aircraft carrier $200 million less than than an additional Nimitz-class carrier.
Construction of the first ship in the CVN-21 series is scheduled to begin in 2008.
