F-15Es to field urban strike weapon
USAF wants Boeing to develop a version of its Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) Increment 1 weapon with a composite-cased warhead to reduce unintended casualties in attacks on targets in urban areas.
The bomb case will break into fibres when exploded, limiting its lethal range, while it will also release a dense metal powder that will lose energy quickly, reducing the blast radius.
