N.D., Louisiana senators asking Rumsfeld for future B-52 plans, gap study
Senators from North Dakota and Louisiana are preparing a bipartisan letter to send to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld asking him about the future plans for the B-52 bomber.
They will request the Pentagon to conduct a bomber gap study and ask Rumsfeld what the prospect is for the Pentagon to realistically field a new bomber by about 2017.
The Quadrennial Defense Review recently called for the retirement of some B-52s and limit the fleet to 56 aircraft by fiscal year 2008.
