Program slashes maintenance time for the B-2 fleet
B-2 stealth bombers that are configured with Alternate High Frequency Material have their mission capability rate increased due to efforts by engineers from the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate.
Tape covering access panel gaps and fasteners are replaced by AHFM. When the material was scaled-up for fleet-wide implementation, consistent batch-to-batch performance could not be obtained.
Engineers identified AHFM manufacturing problems as the cause and implemented solutions.
