Raytheon Loses Bonus From Boeing on Missile-Defense Contract
Raytheon Co. lost potential bonus pay for work on the Ground-based Midcourse Defense System led by Boeing Co. because of flaws in the management and production of its Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle.
A Missile Defense Agency audit found that the company couldn't ensure consistent production of reliable warheads.
As a result, the Missile Defense Agency will impose on Raytheon a new set of military standards for testing the weapon and its components, replacing the company's internal standards. The most important is that the components must undergo a thermal vacuum test, which simulates conditions in space.
