Japan to decide whether to buy F-22 Raptor next year
Hidehiro Ikematsu, principal deputy director at the Japanese Defense Ministry's international policy planning division, told South Korean reporters that Japan intends to select the replacement for its aging F-4EJ Phantom fighter jets by the end of next year.
Ikematsu said Japan still hopes to buy the F-22 stealth fighter but Tokyo has left the door opened for alternatives like the Typhoon or the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
