S. Korea to spend 8 trillion won next year to improve defense capability: sources
South Korea plans to increase its defense budget next year to 8.3 trillion won (US$8.5 billion) as part of efforts to balance its military power with those of China and Japan as well as counter threats from North Korea.

It will introduce 36 Apache attack helicopters at the cost of 2.4 trillion won and replace aging Nike surface-to-air missiles with 48 second-hand German Patriot missiles at a cost of 1.1 trillion won.
