Walter Schirra, 1923-2007
Mercury astronaut and U.S. Navy test pilot, Walter M. "Wally" Schirra, passed away on Wednesday.
Schirra flew F-86s with the USAF in Korea and achieved two MiG kills. He also helped develop the Sidewinder missile while stationed at the Naval Ordnance Training Station at China Lake, California.
