U.S. bill puts F-22 Raptor out of reach
Japan could delay phasing out its F-4EJ fleet from 2008 after the U.S. House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday reaffirmed a ban on the export of F-22 stealth fighters.
Yomiuri Shimbun reports that this has forced the Japanese Defense Ministry to postpone purchase of next-generation military transport planes in 2008 as they redirect their efforts to upgrading the F-15 fleet.
Japanese officials say they will not rule out buying fighters from a third country.
