IAI and Gulfstream planning G550 tanker
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Gulfstream are cooperating again on the G550 business jet. This time they want to turn it into a flying tanker.
An underbelly gondola-type fuel tank with a 55,000lb fuel capacity will be added to the plane. The tank is removable so that the aircraft can be used for passengers or special missions as well.
Both companies hope that this will be appealing to countries that can not afford to operate a dedicated fleet of tankers.
