President would call for debate if missile budget halted
Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian says he will call for a public debate on Taiwan's defense policy, if the opposition rejects funding for the Hsiung Feng 2E cruise missile.
"If some opposition parties want to do away [with funding], I would call for an open debate on Taiwan's defense policy. Then everyone would clearly see who is truly committed to the defense of this country's security and who is actively paving the way for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan," said Chen.
