Range, Persistence, Stealth, and Networking: The Case for a Carr ier-Based Unmanned Combat Air System (PDF)
This 260-page report from the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessment by Robert Work and Thomas Ehrhard slowly build a case that calls for a carrier-based unmanned combat air system to counter China's dominance in the Pacific.
Going back to the early days of the Second World War, the authors looks at why naval strike aircraft has always lacked the range and persistence to strike deep into enemy territory unaided and how a N-UCAS can finally overcome the obstacles.
Both men also concluded that the F-35C is at best a stop gap solution and only a N-UCAS can provide the range and sortie rates that naval planners have always sought.
