Competition "let's name the M-346"
Folks from Alenia Aermacchi's press office just sent us this flash news. Their M-346 advanced jet trainer is seeking a name and the winner gets a chance to fly on the aircraft! Details after the jump.
Alenia Aermacchi, a Finmeccanica company, is launching a competition to name its new M-346 aircraft.
The M-346 is the only new generation advanced/lead-in fighter trainer currently available in Europe. The aircraft is tailored to train pilots to fly new generation combat aircraft and is well suited for every phase of advanced and pre-operational training, to reduce the flight hours on the more expensive aircraft. The aircraft embodies the latest “design-to-cost” and “design-to-maintain” concepts, with avionics modelled upon those of new generation military aircraft such as Eurofighter, Gripen, Rafale, F-16, F-22 and the future JSF.
The main goal of the competition is to associate the M-346 with a name that reinforces its key distinctive elements and its image itself on the global market. A “name” that will underline the common approach of the Finmeccanica aircraft family, which already includes the MRCA “Tornado”, EF2000 “Typhoon” and C-27J “Spartan”. Naming aircraft is also a common practice on the international market, with examples the F-15 “Eagle”, F-16 “Fighting Falcon”, the F-18 “Hornet”.
The competition is open to anyone of age 18 or over.
Entries must be submitted from 20 October to 23 November 2008, exclusively through the internet by using the dedicated website http://concorsom346.aermacchi.it, or through the link on the Finmeccanica, Alenia Aeronautica and Alenia Aermacchi website.
All entries will be examined by a specially appointed committee comprising representatives Finmeccanica, Alenia Aeronautica and Alenia Aermacchi. All decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
