U.S. Naval War College: Update on China's Aircraft Carrier Ambitions
This updated report from the U.S. Naval War College suggests that China's development of an aircraft carrier is advantageous to the U.S. in the short to medium term.

Both authors, Nan Li and Christopher Weuve, concluded that Chinese carriers will initially be limited to air defense roles and can be easily contained. Building them also suck away funds needed for advanced submarines or advanced missiles.

However if China can overcome obstacles to build large, nuclear-powered carriers in the long term. The U.S. will have to invest more money to contain them.
