Video: Former USAF colonel finally recognized for efforts that save SR-71 over Vietnam Retired USAF Col. David Dempster was awarded Distinguished Flying Cross on Thursday for his actions that save his SR-71 over Vietnam 42 years ago.



Dempster's pilot had started to lose consciousness after opening his face plate to take a drink. He quickly read instructions to him to bring the plane to a lower altitude to bring in fresh oxygen into the cockpit.
