DARPA launches Mach 20 capable HTV-2, mission failed
While all eyes were focused on the launch of the X-37B on Thursday, DARPA quietly launched its Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 (HTV-2) an hour earlier from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
But the experiment ended prematurely nine minutes into its mission, DARPA said on Friday night.
The HTV-2 is designed to glide through Earth's atmosphere at Mach 20 and above.
