U.S. Navy’s Laser Weapon System destroys UAVs in test

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) announced that its Laser Weapon System (LaWS) has for the first time shoot down a UAV in an over-the-water, combat representative scenario.

The laser was mounted on a MK 15 Close In Weapon System (CIWS)  and fired through a beam director on a KINETO Tracking Mount.

  1. If this system can do as advertised then what about using it on orbiting junk and can it be adapted to protect space craft from rocks and other material
