Gates: China’s military leaders unwilling to have stronger ties with U.S.

Shortly after arriving in Singapore for the Shangri-la Dialogue, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates told reporters that China’s military leaders are unwilling to foster closer relations with the U.S. compare to their civilian leaders.

“I’m disappointed that the PLA leadership has not seen the same potential benefits from this kind of a military-to-military relationship as their own leadership and the United States seemed to think would be a benefit,” he said.
