F-35 more vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire

Inside Defense recently revealed that an earlier effort to reduce the weight of the F-35 might have made the stealth jet more vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire.

Lockheed Martin had removed shutoff valves for engine coolant and hydraulic lines and five of six dry bay fire-suppression systems in order to shed 11 pounds off the aircraft.

Now the Pentagon’s chief weapons tester has recommended that those things be put back into the aircraft.
