There are speculation that the Royal Navy is looking at employing catapult-launched fighters for its new aircraft carriers.
First, it had agreed with the USMC to send 12 Royal Navy pilots to train in the States over the next 12 years. This includes flying the F/A-18.
A firm was also recently awarded a £650,000 contract to develop an electromagnetic catapult system suitable for the new aircraft carriers.
