F-35 flight tests suspended for software fix

All variants of the F-35 have been grounded after laboratory testing revealed a serious flaw in the software controlling the jet’s three fuel boost pumps.

Pentagon spokeswoman Cheryl Irwin said there was a possibility of engine stalling if the fuel boost pump signal timing was uncorrected.

Modified software will be uploaded to the test aircraft and testing should resume on Oct. 5.

Meanwhile, STOVL operations for the F-35B has stopped as well after the discovery of an issue with the auxiliary inlet door hinge.
