Poor inspections, defects plague F-15K fleet

A brand new F-15K was delivered to South Korea in September with an engine defect. The internal damage was only discovered after the aircraft landed in South Korea.

The defective engine could not be repaired and Pratt & Whitney replaced it with a new one.

Defense sources put on the blame on poor inspections carried out by South Korean inspectors in the United States. There are concerns that poor workmanship at Boeing’s F-15 plant is part of the cause as well.

Korea Times also reported that its source is worried that one third of the F-15K fleet has problems with its avionics.
