F-35 engine too big to transport at sea

The U.S. Navy is struggling to find a solution on how to bring a replacement F-35 engine to any of its aircraft carrier at sea as the engine is too big.

Navy Times reported that the engine, encased in its Engine Shipping System, is too large for the cargo door of the C-2 or V22. It also cannot not be transferred from a supply ship to a carrier during underway replenishments.

  1. “Moreover, the Navy has no fleet V-22s and has no plans to acquire them.”

So the oft-quoted USN ‘requirement’ for 48 HV-22s has been formally dropped? Interesting to finally see this confirmed in print.
