Turkey wants indigenous fighter, rejects Eurofighter

Turkey’s Defense Industry Executive Committee has decided that the nation will proceed to develop an indigenous fighter after 2020.

Ankara would either go alone or partner with another country for the air superiority fighter. It has also rejected the Eurofighter as a candidate.

Defense Minister Vecdi Gönül said partnering with South Korea is a slim possibility. “We can manufacture the new fighter aircraft with them, we don’t rule this out. But the decision we have taken now calls for the production of a totally national and original aircraft,” he said.
