USAF T-38 pilots faulted for Iowa stadium flyover

The lead pilot of a formation of four USAF T-38s was found to have violated safety rules by flying just 118 feet above the ground during a flyover for the football game between Iowa and Ohio universities last year.

Maj. Christopher Kopacek was found to have violated rules by flying too fast during practice and the actual flyover, flying too close to ground level above a congested area, failing to report deviations from the flight plan to superiors and making a false statement during the investigation. He will leave the Air Force.

Five other pilots involved in the flyover were given punishment consisted of administrative action.
