RoKAF lacks correct flares to counter N. Korea’s infrared missiles

A report by South Korea’s Board of Audit and Inspection says the country’s Air Force lacked the correct type of flares to counter North Korea’s infrared-guided missiles.

The RoKAF’s current inventory of flares cannot be used to counter North Korea’s SA-18 Igla and AA-11 which seeks target in the 3-5 ㎛ infrared range.

The report said the threat will remain for four more years as South Korea can only develop the correct type of flares in 2014.
