A senior U.S. defense official said Washington’s decision to sell arms to Taiwan will not be dictated by the need to maintain military connections with China.
David Helvey, the Defence Department’s principal director for East Asia policy, said he Obama administration remains committed to the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act.
