Jindalee Operational Radar Network fails to detect boatpeople

Australia’s Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) can only detect vessels up from the size of a Armidale-class patrol boat, a Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman said.

The high tech radar is thus unable to detect asylum seeker boats which are smaller in size. One of the primary missions for the over-the-horizon high-frequency radar network is to stop illegal-entry, smuggling and unlicensed fishing.
