HMS Illustrious is being prepared for war in Libya and will be sent to relieve HMS Ocean in the next six months.
The ship is not suppose to be ready for operations until 2012 after its refit. However, the situation in Libya forced the Royal Navy to speed up work.
British Army Apache helicopters have been practicing on board the ship since Monday.
