Poorly executed ‘loaded roll’ lead to fatal Super Hornet crash

The fatal crash of a VFA-122 F/A-18F at NAS Lemoore last year could have been prevent, investigators say.

The crew was practicing the ‘loaded roll’ maneuver at 880 feet above ground when the aircraft departed and dive into the ground.

Investigations found that the pilot had executed the maneuver at too steep an angle and his previous three attempts were not properly carried out as well. His errors were not pointed out in the previous post flight debriefs.
