RQ-7’s wings could swell in Afghanistan’s hot summer

An internal report by the U.S. Marine Corps has raised questions on the ability of the RQ-7 to fly on hot summer days in Afghanistan.

The UAV is designed to operate in conditions up to 122 degrees but peak summer runway temperatures can reach 135 degrees in Afghanistan’s Helmand province. This could cause the plane’s wings to swell and vent fuel, the report stated.
