Bird strike caused fatal AH-1W crash

A USMC AH-1W attack helicopter lost its main rotor and its transmission after a red hawk hit the top of the helicopter on Sept. 19, 2011.

The crash killed two pilots from HMLAT-303. Investigators concluded that there is no way to recover from the bird strike.
