Assad said he regrets the shooting down of Turkish F-4

Syrian President Bashar Assad said he regrets the shooting down of a Turkish F-4 but defended his military, saying his forces acted in self-defense.

In an interview with the Cumhuriyet daily, Assad said that the jet was flying in a corridor inside Syrian airspace that had been used by Israeli planes in 2007 to bomb a suspected nuclear site in Syria.
