USAF, RAF tankers fly two-ship formation

A Royal Air Force L-1011 TriStar aerial refueling tanker from 216 Squadron, RAF Brize Norton, flew alongside a 100th Air Refueling Wing KC-135 Stratotanker in a unique training exercise that may have been the first of its kind.

The exercise, carried out from Aug. 16-17, was to allow tankers from allied nations to operate much closer together. The need was identified during Operation Unified Protector when refueling sorties were taking up vast amounts of airspace.
