Indian Army wrestles control of attack helicopters from Air Force

A long battle between India’s Army and Air Force over who controls the country’s attack helicopters has been settled.

Army chief, Gen. Bikram Singh, said on Friday that the government decided that the military’s entire attack helicopter fleet would be owned, operated and maintained by the Army.

This includes Apaches being acquired, 179 light combat helicopters (LCHs) and 76 Rudras. The Hinds will continue to be operated by the air force until they are retired from service.
