ANG firefighting C-130 flew into intense storm before crash

The U.S. Air Force Air Mobility Command determined that the crew of a North Carolina-based Air National Guard C-130 flew into a severe gust of wind called a microburst before it crashed in South Dakota in July.

The report said the crew made “inadequate assessment of operational conditions” and there were ” conflicting operational guidance concerning thunderstorm avoidance.”
