PLAAF fighters performed badly during ACM training

During a mock air combat training earlier this month by PLAAF’s Guangzhou Military Region, the red force was beaten and lost their AEW&C after exercise directors introduced a ‘English-speaking third party’ into the battle space.

The pilots were confused after hearing English transmission on their intercoms. By the time they understood what was being said, their AEW&C was shot down by enemy forces. Without airborne early warning support, the red force was forced to retreat.

One of the exercise director later told the reporter that the inclusion of a third party was to train red force’s pilots to quickly adapt to a confusing environment and to make the training more realistic.
