Rear Adm. Mark Darrah, commander of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, said ship change notices have been issued for the amphibious assault ships so that they can accommodate the extreme heat and noise generated by the F-35B.
Thermion coating will be applied to the flight decks and additional baffling will be added to the ships’ structure to lower the decibel level below decks, he said.
