Office of Naval Research (ONR) together with F-35 Program Office, Naval Air Systems Command, GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems and Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory, has managed to automate the process of manufacturing the F-35 canopy.
Previously, it required skilled workers six days to turn an acrylic shell into a canopy. Now with the new process, it will take only four days or less.
