South Korea plans to buy retired S-3s, building light aircraft carriers

The South Korean Navy has an ambitious plan to buy 18 retired USN S-3s and operate two light aircraft carriers by 2036.

The initial plan is to equip the second Dokdo-class LPH with a ski-jump in order to gain experience operating VSTOL aircraft from surface ship.

Eventually, two 30,000-ton light aircraft carriers will be build between 2028 and 2036.
