J-10 pilot flies jet to Taiwan

This evening, around 1601hrs Beijing time, a J-10 pilot landed his jet at Ching Chuan Kang Air Base in Taichung, Taiwan.

The 41-year old Air Force Major told his Taiwanese Air Force counterparts that he come to Taiwan to join the students protesting a trade pact with China in Taipei.

He told interrogators that he felt threatened by the trade agreement as it would liberalize the services sector on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. He was worried that Taiwanese fighter pilots could then ply their trade in China and take away his job.
