Aries Flight 70th Anniversary

The first British aircraft to circumnavigate the globe carried out the feat in secret seventy years ago on Oct. 21.

Lancaster PD 328 left RAF Shawbury and flew west before reaching New Zealand. The crew then visited 24 bases in New Zealand, Australia and New Guinea to impart new navigation techniques to front line units. It then flew west again before returning home two months later.
