The U.S. Marine Corps has finally decided that it will need a medium- to high-altitude UAV similar in performance to the MQ-9.
The service currently relies on hand-launched or small UAVs for its surveillance needs. The Marine Aviation Plan 2015 calls for a new UAV that can be transported to the front line using a C-130 and controlled from a ship.
