Lockheed Martin’s Crowsnest AEW solution for RN

Lockheed Martin has provided more information on its offering for the Royal Navy’s Crowsnest airborne surveillance and control (ASaC) program.

Two sensor pods mounted on the weapon carriers of the Merlin HM.2 anti-submarine warfare helicopter will each have two fixed-face AESA arrays linked to a IAI Elta EL/M-2052 radar.

Installing the pods will take between 15 to 20 minutes. The sensor pod concept was testing on a Boeing 737 testbed in January 2014 and pre-production pods were flown on a Merlin HM.2 helicopter between July to November last year.
