Bell believes that its V-280 tilt-rotor, competing in the U.S. Army’s Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator (JMR-TD) program, will have sports car-like handling qualities.
The plane will be easier to manufacture as well as only the gearboxes and prop-rotors rotate during transitions between vertical and forward flight. This eliminates the need for a mid-wing gearbox.
