South Korea may field IIR-guided 2.75 inch rockets next year

South Korea has reported some success with its Low-Cost Guided Imaging Rocket program and the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) said the guided 2.75 inch rocket could be deployed as early as next year.

Based on the Hydra 70, the rocket is similar to the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System but instead of laser homing, the rocket has a fire-and-forget capability due to the use of an imaging infrared sensor.

ADD added that the weapon could be deployed on the islands of Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong in the Yellow Sea to counter North Korea’s landing craft air cushion (LCAC) vehicles.
