Russian military satellite designed to track submarines failed to detach from rocket launcher

Russia has admitted that it was the Kanopus ST military satellite that failed to reach orbit and it still attached to its Soyuz-2-1v rocket after one of the four locks holding it failed to unlatch.



The main mission of the Kanopus ST was believed to be tracking enemy submarines. TASS says it sensors included a microwave radiometer and a multispectral camera with a spatial resolution of 30-50 m.
